This month's issue is highlighted by an amazing double truck cover story about the dual between pitcher and hitter focused on the fastball in both baseball and softball. But that is just the start of our magazine content. Page designs are by Courtney Sabo, who serves as our production editor and our editor in chief. Page content is as always by the R&W staff and editors.
We are looking forward to your comments, sharing of ideas and other musings about our issue or about scholastic journalism in general. Drop us a line... we will get back to you if needed - we love to share ideas.

As promised, our second issue features even more design details, another no-text cover and a better magazine approach that we will continue to work on this year.

Magazine cover without teaser text... and the sky did not fall. Second issue plans are a big leap from this. We welcome comments - that why we post here. Try to be specific - great to have year-long critiques that will help us improve.

Jane,
You did receive those mag covers with limited or absent teasers - we went with a strong image, the logo and the month date. Whew. Details about the issue are on page 14. Interesting look yet we do not feel that these rules are survival rules that cannot be challenged. Check out Texas Monthly, T: The NYT Style magazine, Interview, New York Look - all which feature minimal cover text. This design does put a premium on Illustrator work, but hey, they are trying to create, not necessarily follow - quite the risk, but the rewards could be great. I will send you pdf of first issue in a week.

Hi Sam,

Some thoughts and questions: Do you break the rules when running track? Do you run clockwise on the track? No, so you would need a very good reason to do this since you are promoting professional approaches to magazine design. If you look at it as a reader service instead of some annoying thing to include, then it will not be such a struggle to put it on the cover. I would argue, that you would need to find a professional magazine that does not place this info right up front to support the reasoning for not including it onthe front cover. Does that make sense?

I\'ve suggested that we break some rules with our magazine cover and just include our logo and the month/year date. Do we really need to put all that other stuff there considering our audience and that we have it posted with the publication data later in the issue?
