The mission of Pennsylvania School Press Association is to promote excellence and responsibility in scholastic journalism through developing students who possess sound journalism skills, demonstrate ethical decision making and recognize, uphold, and advocate First Amendment rights through responsible citizenship and informed media consumption.
Pennsylvania School Press Association is the oldest scholastic press association in the country, established in 1926. It has not been affiliated with a university or college as many other such associations are. PSPA offers a host of opportunities for student journalists through annual publication critiques, individual entry critiques, open seats for students on the PSPA board, a web site, and regional workshops. In addition PSPA annually recognizes an administrator with the Outstanding Administrator Award, a teacher with the Teacher of the Year Award, a student with the Student Journalist of the Year Award, and other organizations that help promote student journalism in the commonwealth with the Friends of Journalism Award.
