Join PSPA’s student board

Are you a self-starter? Do you want to make something happen in student journalism during 2009-2010? Do you want to meet like-minded student journalists from around the state?

If so, the PSPA student board is for you.

We’re looking for students as described above. We will consider multiple students from the same publication staff. However, we will limit the board to the following positions:

  • 4 newspaper representatives
  • 2 literary magazine board members
  • 2 yearbook board members
  • 2 broadcast journalism / web-based journalism board members

It’s PSPA’s hope that the students will create their own projects, and then implement the plans. Mr. Hankes and other PSPA board members will facilitate the student board as it moves towards achieving its goal.

It is assumed that the parents of the student will provide transportation for meetings around the state – locations and times to be decided. However, there will be no more than four meetings during the 2009-2010 school year. Some meetings may be virtual meetings – if so, we’ll provide the webcam for your computer should you not have one.

If the student is present at ALL of the planned events for 2009-2010, he or she will receive a plaque thanking them for a year’s service, and their school will receive a $100 stipend to be used for the student’s school journalism program. If the student does not attend every event, a certificate of appreciation will be issued.

All students must reapply for board positions annually.

EVENTS

* Students will be interviewed in August. Mr. Hankes will be contacting each prospective board member in July.
